Choosing the right image size
Pixel dimensions describe how many dots make up an image. A modern phone photo might be 4000 × 3000 pixels — far more than a website or email needs. Displaying that photo in an 800-pixel-wide column forces visitors to download about 19 times more data than necessary.
As a rule of thumb, export images at the largest size they will actually be displayed, multiplied by two for high-density (Retina) screens. A 600-pixel-wide content image should therefore be saved at roughly 1200 pixels wide.
Enlarging an image beyond its original size cannot add real detail; it only spreads existing pixels further apart. For best results, always resize down from a larger original.
Frequently asked questions
Will resizing reduce quality?
Shrinking an image keeps it sharp and usually makes it look crisper. Enlarging it beyond the original size will make it softer because new detail cannot be invented.
What is the maximum size I can create?
Output dimensions are limited to 10,000 pixels per side to stay within browser canvas limits and protect your device's memory.
Can I resize without keeping proportions?
Yes. Switch off “Keep aspect ratio” and type any width and height. The image will be stretched to fit exactly.
